La réaction au projet sioniste fut violente surtout chez les rabbins profondément attachés au judaïsme.

Le grand rabbin Yaakon Kappel Rottblum dénonça vigoureusement le sionisme politique qu'il qualifia de «danger mortel pour
le
judaïsme». Il écrivait dans une de ses lettres rapportée dans Judaïsme contre sionisme (Édition Cujas, Paris, 1969), que:


«Le danger du sionisme c'est qu'il fait accomplir au peuple juif des péchés, des choses mauvaises en lui faisant croire qu'ainsi
il accomplit la loi divine. C'est en cela que consistait le péché des habitants de Sodome: ils n'avaient pas
conscience de faire le mal; ils pensaient au contraire qu'ils s'acquittaient de leur devoir de citoyens, qu'ils accomplissaient
la loi de
leur pays. Tels sont les sionistes.»

De son côté, le grand rabbin français Emmanuel Levyne, dans son livre Judaisme contre sionisme (Édit. Cujas), écrivait en
1969 que:
«Reconquérir la terre d'Israël par l'argent et les armes, c'est manquer de foi: c'est-à-dire commettre le péché principal
qui a été la cause de l'exil (Zohar 1, 2196). C'est le plus sûr moyen d'en repartir et d'en être chassé totalement et définitivement.»

Poursuivant son argumentation, il ajoute:
«Le sionisme politique nie la foi essentielle d'Israël. C'est la plus dangereuse hérésie de toute l'histoire juive. Elle menace
l'existence du judaïsme. Il faut donc la combattre avec la plus grande énergie

The reaction to the Zionist project was violent especially among rabbis deeply attached to the Judaism.

The chief rabbi Yaakon Kappel Rottblum vigorously denounced the political Zionism which it described as “mortal danger to

Judaism”. It wrote in one of its letters brought back in Judaïsme against Zionism (Edition Cujas, Paris, 1969), that:


“The danger of the Zionism it is that it makes achieve with the Jewish people of the sins, of the bad things while making him believe that thus
it achieves the divine law. It is in that that the sin of the inhabitants of Sodome consisted: they did not have
conscience to make the evil; they thought on the contrary that they discharged owe them citizens, that they achieved
the law of
their country. Such are the Zionists.”

On its side, the French chief rabbi Emmanuel Levyne, in his Judaisme book against Zionism (Edict. Cujas), wrote in
1969 that:
“To reconquer the ground of Israel by the money and the weapons, it is to lack faith: i.e. to make the principal sin
who was the cause of the exile (Zohar 1, 2196). It is the surest means of setting out again and of being driven out of it about it completely and definitively.”

Continuing its argumentation, it adds:
“The political Zionism denies the essential faith of Israel. It is the most dangerous heresy of all the Jewish history. It threatens
the existence of the Judaism. It thus should be fought with greatest energy
